School Day

School Hours: Students arrive by 8:25 AM to be ready for classes to begin at 8:30 AM. Earlier arrival is possible. While staff are in the building in case students have any needs, there is no formal supervision until 8:00 AM.

For students who arrive between 7:30 and 8:00 AM:

  • Primary and junior students go to the Library.
  • Senior students go to their wing.

By 8:00 AM all students go outside for supervised play time until 8:25 AM.

The day ends at 3:10 PM for JK and at 3:20 PM for SK and grade 1 students. All other students are dismissed at 3:30 PM. This staggered pick up allows for a smoother flow of parent traffic. There is an optional after school supervised program for JK to grade 6.
 

Most students car pool and some take public transportation. A few parents arrange a private shuttle bus. We help parents find car pools by posting a list on our private web site.

For those children in JK to Grade 6 who cannot be picked up at 3:30 PM, Turnbull School offers an after school program, for a fee. A supervised play time and homework room is available from 3:30 to 5:15 PM, Mondays to Fridays, except on PD days. This program is run by Dovercourt Community Centre, but on our site. They also offer some PD day programs for our students.

There is no supervision for Grade 7 and 8 students, but, if they have no means of getting home at 3:30 PM, they are welcome to stay until 5:15 PM, helping out with the Dovercourt program.
