Science and Technology

It has been our constant belief that children have a natural curiosity for scientific knowledge and need more interactive, hands-on learning in science. Children best acquire this knowledge through experimenting, manipulation and exploration with science materials. They are then able to apply this practical knowledge to what is offered in textbooks and other written materials.

We promote children's natural curiosity for the scientific world through interactive, hands-on learning, offering many opportunities for experiments, labs and exploration. Two science labs, a wealth of resources, textbooks and equipment, as well as specialized teachers, ensure a very enriching experience for our students. Improved problem solving strategies have evolved and our children have been spurred on to also question, explore and learn outside of their time in the classroom.

A school wide Science Fair celebrates our school's emphasis on science. Many of our Grade 7 and 8 students have qualified for the Regional and Canada Wide National Science Fairs where they have received many high honours and awards.

Two state of the art computer labs ensure that every student has regular access to our technology. All classrooms also have computers connected to the school network and to the Library circulation desk. Smart Boards are used throughout the school to enhance subject lessons. Students at all grade levels have an enriching technology curriculum that, depending on the grade level, includes desktop publishing, web animation, internet research, design, publishing, graphing and keyboarding.
