Intramural Sports

Intramural team sports foster participation for all students to encourage regular physical activity.  They are offered at lunch time and include soccer, basketball, volleyball, badminton, touch football, dodge ball, ball hockey, capture the flag, touch rugby, and track and field.  Our senior students take a leadership role in our intramural sports which includes roles as referees, coaches, statisticians, equipment managers, etc. This is yet another way to provide our seniors with opportunities to develop leadership skills and to promote a strong sense of community within our school as older students help younger ones while enjoying physical activity.

Our diversified intramural program that encourages participation for all students regardless of their ability is one of the key reasons Turnbull School is recognized with the highest national achievement each year in physical education - the Diamond Award - from Physical and Health Education Canada. In addition, since 2008 Turnbull School has received the Outstanding Intramural Achievement Award from CIRA Ontario (the provincial level of the Canadian Intramural Recreation Association), one of only 56 schools across Ontario chosen for its strong program of promoting physical activity and having senior students assist in a leadership capacity within the programs.
