Field Trips

Excursions outside of the school are tied directly to the curriculum and used to enhance the material and bring relevance to student learning in the classroom. Day trips take advantage of Ottawa’s rich resources of galleries, museums, the Experimental Farm near the school, the National Arts Centre, the Parliament Buildings, as well as outdoor nature sites. In Grades 4 to 8, students also have a “sleep over” trip once a year:
Grade 4: Biodome, Montreal, Quebec
Grade 5: Camp Iawah, Wolfe Lake, Westport Ontario (Rideau Lakes area)
Grade 6: Kingston
Our Grade 7 students love their three day trip to Québec City.  The curriculum they have covered in French, history and geography classes is enhanced by visits to historical and geographic sites such as the Citadelle, Montmorency Falls, Lower Town Québec, the Museum of Civilization, the Plains of Abraham, the Musée du Fort for a sound and light show about the history and famous military battles of Québec, a sugar shack, the Québec observatory, Ste. Anne de Beaupré Basilica, a paper mill tour, or a visit to the Artillery Park, Tadoussac and its Marine Mammals Interpretation Centre, etc. (Sites visited vary slightly from year to year.)

Each year our Grade 8s participate in a three day outdoor adventure in the fall. This is a real highlight of their year as they enjoy a rewarding outdoor experience working together in cooperative games, developing team and leadership skills, hiking and canoeing. It is a great way for our graduating class to bond well right from the beginning of the year and develop those essential leadership skills that are transferred back to their role in the school. The students find the trip a very rewarding and educational experience.
