School History

Turnbull School is an elementary private school in Ottawa, Ontario. Founded in 1992,
it is centrally situated on 5 1/2 acres in the quiet Experimental Farm area. Fisher Avenue provides convenient access from all directions of Ottawa, either by way of Baseline Road or the Queensway / Carling Avenue corridor. With the Experimental Farm across the road and behind our property, the students are surrounded by a green and peaceful environment.

Small classes and exceptional teachers provide a well rounded and enriching academic program, where emphasis is placed on Excellence and Caring.

In April, 1996 Turnbull School moved from its third previous campus and settled into an inviting and cheerful facility designed by Ottawa architect Barry Hobin which includes:

  • a double gymnasium so every student has daily physical education classes
  • two state of the art computer labs
  • two science labs
  • a sound proof music / drama room, and
  • two art rooms.

The security system offers controlled access and gives our parents much peace of mind that their children are safe. The central air conditioning certainly adds an element of comfort when summer approaches!

The play area at the back is completely fenced in, providing a safe area for the children. Two play structures, a soccer field and an area for junior and senior kindergarten with their own play equipment and sand box all add to the students' leisure time enjoyment.  In addition, a large city park behind the school is used for skating, ball hockey and an extra sports area on its spacious fields.
