Individual tutoring is available during the school year, September to June, at the Centre. Lessons take place after school and during the evenings. Sessions are 60 minutes in length, one or two times per week, and are scheduled around convenient times for the student. The student's individual needs and personality are considered when matching a tutor and student. Each of our caring and dedicated tutors is highly qualified in his/her areas of specialization.
Our commitment to close communication with classroom teachers and resource teachers is appreciated by both parents and the other professionals working with the student. In this way, the Centre's tutors do not work in |
isolation, but rather strive to share ideas, concerns, and objectives in meeting the student's individual needs. This is most beneficial to the student.
Before a tutor is assigned, the student can be assessed at the Centre (see Summer / Tutoring Assessments) unless recent testing has already occurred. While the assessment is not mandatory, it maps out an appropriate course of action and facilitates programming. It also provides a baseline measure for comparative purposes if a parent wishes to take advantage of our free review assessments when tutoring has continued over the course of a year. A program is designed around the strengths and weaknesses of the individual. The program may include the following: |

Due to the individualized nature of our programs, enrichment is also offered. Gifted students have the opportunity to expand their reasoning and problem solving skills as well as their oral and written communication skills. In addition, areas outlined above can be addressed to enhance their abilities.
The Centre uses materials that are highly regarded educational programs and are very motivating for the student. The student's needs and interests are matched to the programs, rather than making the student fit pre-selected programs. Our teachers have access to a wide variety of resources, which is to the student's advantage. They also discuss each student's progress with the Registrar, Joyce Walker-Steed, who oversees the tutorial programs.
For high school students requiring specific subject tutoring, for example, mathematics, science, English, see "Subject Tutoring (High School)"
