Turnbull Learning Centre’s successful academic morning programs can be taken on their own or combined with an afternoon of sports or recreation camp. Alternatively, parents can choose just the afternoon program.

Turnbull Learning Centre's Academic Programs:
mornings

In very small SkillBoosters classes, students receive an individualized academic program that eases their progression into the next grade by improving skills and confidence, and developing good work habits, organizational skills and proficiency in written English language arts and/or mathematics or in a combination of oral and written French language arts. Other morning academic programs include ESL Summer Learning for children who are newcomers to Canada or others needing additional language acquisition, our Writing and Research Skills course, Intermediate Grades Prep as well as the very successful end of summer High School Prep course. Camp Crescendo Band Camp

This one week musical adventure invites students, who are beginners or who have played their instrument for one year, to have fun and develop their musical skills. The summer camp, led by Ms. Sheri Harrington, head of music at Turnbull School, focuses on group performance and individual progression on band instruments. Students will also play in drumming circles, participate in rhythm and fun theory games, and study some of the great composers of the Classical Era. Instruction is offered on brass, woodwind or percussion instruments. All instruments are provided by Turnbull School and St. John's Music Store.
Real Programming 4 Kids - RP4K

ages 8 to 17
This summer your child can learn to program video games "just like a pro". RP4K teaches real industry standard programming languages including Visual Basic, C++, C#, Java & XNA to small groups of students grouped by age and programming level. Imagine learning University level Computer Programming while still a kid! We are now using ALICE (developed by Carnegie Mellon University) to teach the youngest students who are eager to start learning Programming. There are never more than 4 kids per instructor and always one computer per student. Summer 2010 will be RP4K’s 7th Ottawa Game Programming camp, located this time at Turnbull School. Dovercourt Recreation Camps

Each week is a different and engaging theme, so students can participate for one or more weeks. Information on weekly themes can be found by following the link on the left menu. A post camp supervision option (until 5:00 PM) is available.

Soong Badminton Academy

ages 6 to 18
Players are grouped according to age and ability and a post camp supervision option (until 5:00 PM) is available. Instruction is provided by qualified NCCP instructors and University varsity players and alumni. Badminton birds are provided.

Above the Rim Basketball School

ages 7 to 14
This one week program offers basketball for the enthusiast taught by professional teachers and coaches in a well structured and fun format, including tournament day, pizza Friday and prizes. All participants receive an Above the Rim School t-shirt and other prizes. A full day or afternoon option is available. Further information can be accessed from the menu at the left.
Since this program is sponsored by the City of Ottawa Parks and Recreation and has limited enrolment, parents wishing to register their child for a Turnbull morning academic program as well as this basketball program should contact Craig Dunn at 613-838-1241. Mr. Dunn will book Turnbull Summer School students individually if they are registering prior to the date that City registration opens. Then registration is done through the City of Ottawa, Parks and Recreation, at www.ottawa.ca. Registration tends to fill very quickly for this program.
