Kids Love Drumming (KLD) Drum Circle
afternoons, 12:30 to 4:00
2 weeks, July 21 to August 1
ages 9 to 13
Turnbull School's Music Department is happy to repeat this popular two week afternoon safari for students entering grades 4 through 7. This summer adventure is guided by Ms. Sheri Harrington, head of Turnbull School's innovative instrumental music program.
All kids love to play the drums! The instrument's sound, power and feel are all tremendous motivators for learning music. Rhythms played in an ensemble require self discipline and teamwork as the circle interacts with persuasive rhythms. The reward is immediate, dynamic and an expressive sound that is greater than the sum of its percussionists.
Safari goers learn about and play their instruments in a drum circle and also focus on singing and improvisation set to African rhythms. Not only does this experience set a foundation for all other musical disciplines, it is also a fun and valuable social experience for all.
On some of the nice summer days, the drummers may practise outdoors in our "Theatre in the Round".
The erythematic safari concludes with an enchanting drummers' circle showcase that parents are welcome to attend.
