Above the Rim Basketball School

This fun filled sports program can be taken as a full day option (pre-camp and post-camp supervision is available as early as 8:00 and as late as 5:00) or a half day afternoon program, combined with one of the Turnbull Learning Centre's morning academic programs.

Above the Rim Basketball Camp is independently run, in conjunction with the City of Ottawa. Director and founder, Craig Dunn, is Vice Principal of the Senior School and Head of Physical Education & Athletics at Turnbull School. His programs have been well received from Ottawa, Orleans and Kanata to the Eastern Townships, James Bay and as far as Nunavut. His summer camp is hosted in Turnbull School's double gymnasium.  Since the program is sponsored by the City of Ottawa Parks and Recreation and has limited enrolment, parents wishing to register their child for a Turnbull morning program as well as this sports program should contact Craig Dunn at 613-838-1241. Mr. Dunn will facilitate Turnbull Summer School students individually if they are registering prior to the date that City registration opens. Registration may be full soon after this date.

Children are divided into groups based on age and ability.  Various stations offer warm ups, instruction, drills and at least an hour of scrimmage time.  This game time will be used as a fun conclusion at each station, as well as a teaching tool used by the coaches to reinforce the concepts previously taught. The Above the Rim Basketball Camp program is offered in a safe and fun environment led by professional teachers and coaches.

On Tuesday and Thursday afternoons there is an optional free swim at General Burns Pool (included in your fees). Children are bused over with staff and the free swim is run by the City.

Friday afternoon is Tournament Day, including pizza lunch (included in your fees), followed by an award presentation for that day's tournaments and week long achievements.  Draws for prizes will also take place on Friday.
